Fitting Seats

By far and away the most important step for you to wrap your head around is how you will fit your seats. If you’re a bit handy and want to tackle it yourself there are plenty of videos on youtube to teach and support you. If you would prefer for someone else to do it then google ‘van converters’ within travelling distance from yourself or discuss your plan with a competent mechanic. Fitting seats isn’t a difficult job for a competent mechanic or van converter and it can be done in a couple of hours. A fair price to charge for this service is £150 to £300 depending on how many seats are being fitted and where you are in the country.

Windows

If you are putting seats in the back of your van you really should put windows in too. This will cost circa £400 (fitted) for two depending on the type of windows you install and there are details for an approved window fitter below.

Bolts, Nylocs, Load Spreader Plates

A good standard to work to when fitting seats is to use M12 Bolts with Nyloc nuts and 6 mm angle bar cut to size as load spreading plates. You can buy Nuts & Bolts from our Online Store and 6 mm angle bar is readily available from any steel stockist or iron monger.

DVLA Registering

Contact the DVLA in Swansea and get your vehicle’s V5 changed to indicate it as a 4, 5 or 6 Seater window bus.

Insurance

Contacting your insurance company to tell them that your vehicle has more seats in it shouldn’t be a problem. If they try and make it one then it’s probably time to say good bye and use one of the following companies that specialise in this kind of insurance.
